Foreign Travel Advice and Vaccinations

Please note you should attend the surgery at least 8 weeks before departure for many of the vaccinations to be effective. Please arrange your appointment well in advance so you are covered before you go away.

If you book to travel at short notice we can not guarantee we will have available Travel Appointments.

Not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS so some vaccines will have to be paid for.

When planning your perfect holiday it is important to remember the health risks that could ruin your trip. Many tropical holiday destinations also have life-threatening infectious diseases that can make you very sick, spoil your holiday and even kill you. Take no chance, get your travel vaccinations!

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you can book an appointment with our practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS. Some travel vaccinations are freely available on the NHS. Please ask the nurse for more information.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 8 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

You can also get Private Travel vaccinations at a variety of clinics including Verwood Travel Clinic and the Travel Health Clinic Southampton. Both the clinics in Verwood and Southampton are open at the weekend.
